This is a basic guide for how long it takes to dry food with the Excalibur Dehyrdator. Please keep in mind that your actual results will vary depending on several factors:
Temperature: The lower the temperature, the longer the drying time. When dehydrating fruits, vegetables and nuts, we recommend dehydrating at 105-110 degrees to preserve enzymes and nutrients. Also keep in mind that higher temperatures may dry the outside of the food faster while leaving the inside moist. This is especially true for thick slices.
Thickness of slices: The thinner you slice your food, the shorter the drying time.
Air humidity: The higher the humidity in your home, the longer the drying time.
Food humidity: The higher the water content of the item being dehydrated, the longer the drying time.
Personal preference: Some people like their dried food a bit soft, while others like it crispy. If you want it more crispy, it will increase the time it takes to dry all the water out.
Type of food: The food being dehydrated will dictate how long it takes to dry, as shown by the chart below.
